A young Bramley Seedling on MM106 rootstock - our orchard Sept 2011
The quantity and quality of juice from a volume of fruit varies due to season, variety & ripeness. Our costs however are solely dependent on the volume of fruit processed; this is the reason we charge by the crate (ie by volume). To help our customers in terms they can better understand we offer the following:-
This std milk crate measure has a volume of 0.7 US Bushels (24.6 Lts of volume); this is approximately 26.0 - 28.0 lbs / 11.8 - 12.7 Kgs of hard top fruit apples and pears.
For container sizing the average juice yield per milk crate for 2012 was 7.0 Lts / 1.85 US Gals. Please refer to INFO page for more help in this regard.(Add 15% minimum for a margin when estimating the amount/number of juice containers to bring with you.)
Off loaded fruit is filled into our milk crates via an off load ramp and counted; this way our customers know before they leave what their costs will be.
Payment is required at juice pick-up time as CASH or CHEQUE.
Due to possible cross-contamination via our presses to other customers' juice, we must reserve the right to refuse bad quality rotting fruit (if in doubt you can bring part or all of your fruit and we will look it over and give you a decision as to suitability for juice or cider production). We do a final pick-over when we wash but please note it is the customer's responsibility to bring sound cleaned fruit.
Remember this:- IF YOU WOULD NOT EAT IT WHY WOULD YOU DRINK IT!
